What is a loggia?

What is a loggia?

An outdoor living space in the home, the loggia is, depending on urban planning regulations, very common in certain cities and buildings. Different from a balcony and a traditional conservatory, it nevertheless shares some similarities in this regard, particularly the potential it offers. The loggia is often a source of natural light and, thanks to its robustness, a perfect living space for arranging a cherished area within the home. We explain in detail what this "loge" — good Italian — is and how to make it your favourite place at home.

The loggia: additional potential for an apartment or a house?

Before discussing its potential and all the arrangements that can be made with it, it is necessary to define what a loggia is. Simply put, a loggia is a type of balcony that does not project beyond the facade and is incorporated within the house or building.

When fitted with a removable loggia enclosure, it looks like nothing less than a conservatory on an upper floor, almost like a terrace.

Most of the time, the loggia is made of concrete since it is fully integrated into the structure. Whether in an apartment or a house, it therefore offers numerous layout opportunities, with a living space that invites exploration.

The loggia therefore has far greater potential than a simple balcony, and that is why, when it is elevated and on an upper floor, it retains above all the advantages of a conservatory.

Outdoor living space, extra room and openness to the outdoors are the main advantages of a loggia in your home.

Enclosing your loggia: a good or bad idea?

Thanks to CliKIT, it is entirely possible to enclose your loggia with glass panels. But would closing your loggia or this kind of terrace not mean depriving yourself of an open space naturally connected to the outdoors? On paper, the conditions can indeed seem off-putting.

This is why CliKIT chose to adapt glass curtains for structures other than loggias from the outset. This way, each homeowner is free to open or close their loggia according to their wishes or the weather, always with a made-to-measure and adjustable design based on several characteristics!

The sliding glass screen provides optimal protection against all weather conditions and noise pollution, as well as against impacts from inside or outside. In a modern home or a former architect-designed house, such an addition gives the loggia a whole new dimension and, without question, an extra room that counts in a home and as a real estate asset.

On this topic, layout ideas are, as with a conservatory in a traditional home, almost endless. So, how do you beautify your home by making this living space your new favourite place?

Fitting out your loggia: a new room for the house or apartment

Before fitting out a loggia or any other extension in the home, it is obviously essential to make it safe. If you do not wish to enclose it with glass curtains despite the advantages just presented, a guardrail or at least a barrier will be appropriate.

After that, let your imagination run free for the layout of this new room in your home that faces the outdoors! Just as when wondering how to furnish a garden room, ideas flourish and the result can prove impressive, to the point where the loggia becomes your favourite room in the house.

In urban areas, homeowners can transform their loggia into a fake green space with artificial grass covering the entire surface and even add some furniture to relax while enjoying this semblance of outdoor access. Nevertheless, a loggia enclosed with glass curtains offers an entirely different potential, without ever reducing the abundant flow of light into such a room.

Plants will find a privileged space there and alongside them, an indoor lounge or an office will fit in perfectly. The loggia is often a favourite spot in the home, and being able to relax or concentrate for long hours in such an environment is an extraordinary privilege.

Arranging the loggia to suit your needs and desires is therefore very important. Moreover, some work on the entire surface means this extension will always add value to the property.

The loggia: a real estate advantage that adds value to the property

Like any room that stands out from the ordinary, the loggia is naturally one of the great selling points of a home and intrinsically adds value to a property.

This is a decidedly positive point if you are considering selling your property. Therefore, taking good care of it is essential.

The differences are numerous compared to another extension such as a pergola, but with our advice, there is no doubt you will make the most of this area of your home.
