Clean my pergola: our tips and advice
Maintaining your pergola is important as it can remain your best ally for protection from the rain. Do you want to get rid of dirt stains or restore some of its shine? Follow our few tips that will help you take care of your patio roof, whether it is a polycarbonate pergola or pergotop, a pergotoile, or a glass-roofed pergola.
You will need a few simple tools, the cleaning products listed below, and above all, a little elbow grease!
Before you begin
To avoid dirt and mold, it is recommended to carry out a thorough cleaning at least once a year. This will help keep your pergola looking like new and give it a long lifespan.
It is also advisable beforehand to remove as much moss and dust as possible, as they can clog the water drainage systems of your structure.
You should also choose the right day to carry out the maintenance of your pergola. Preferably choose a sunny, windless day.

Regarding the products to use, corrosive products must absolutely not be used. They could deteriorate the materials of your structure and damage it. For the same reason, do not use a high-pressure water jet to rinse your pergola after cleaning, as the pressure could result in scratches on the glass and other surfaces.
How to clean your pergola with a polycarbonate roof?
Follow the guide for cleaning your pergola with a polycarbonate roof, including the materials to use and, above all, the procedure to put in place.
Equipment needed to clean your pergola with a polycarbonate roof
- A broom
- A soft brush
- Mild soap
- Water

Cleaning procedure
First, lightly scrub the stains and deposits using a mixture of water and mild soap with a soft brush that will not damage the walls of the structure. Then, rinse with clean water to immediately restore the pergola's shine.

Be careful, however, as it is sometimes possible to observe the accumulation of green moss on the roof of the pergola, particularly over time. It can eventually damage the pergola, especially if it is made of polycarbonate, and also reduce the brightness passing through the structure.
To prevent this effect, use a stiffer brush and water diluted with bleach if possible. It is important to first remove the larger residues that could clog the gutter drainage for an optimal clean.
Then, scrub the stains directly and finish by rinsing with clean water using a top-to-bottom motion. If the moss is difficult to remove, use a slightly stronger jet of water, but once again, no high-pressure jet.
How to clean your pergotop roof pergola and sandwich panel pergola?
Our pergotop roof pergolas are made of an extruded aluminum structure and are very easy to maintain. It is important to clean them once or twice a year to extend their lifespan and restore their shine.
Equipment needed to clean your pergotop roof pergola
- A soft absorbent cloth
- Mild soap (with a pH between 5 and 8)
- Water
Cleaning procedure
Using a pressureless jet of water, clean your structure with the mild soap mixture applied beforehand.
Then rinse with clean water and dry with the soft absorbent cloth.

How to clean your pergola with a glass roof?
The pergola glazing must be frequently maintained to preserve its transparency, clarity, and lifespan.
Equipment needed to clean your pergola with a glass roof
- A telescopic sponge mop
- Mild soap or bleach water
- Low-pressure water.
Cleaning procedure
First, use a low-pressure jet of water to remove the least stubborn dirt present on the surface. Then, use the telescopic sponge mop and soapy or bleach water to clean the entire structure without missing any part.

Then, simply rinse with clean water and dry if possible with a soft cloth.
Certain steps and potential observations do however require your attention! As with polycarbonate roof pergolas, it is likely that green moss will accumulate over time on the roof. The problem with this moss is that it can potentially damage the structure gradually and, above all, reduce the brightness and quality of the glass.

To counter this, you can use a harder brush and bleach water where possible. After removing as many residues as possible and preventing them from clogging the water drainage, scrub the stains and rinse with clean water using a vertical motion. If the residues still won't come off, use a slightly more powerful jet of water.
How to clean your fabric pergola or your pergotoile?
Fabric pergolas are ideal for protection from rain or wind. They are watertight and waterproof, but dirt may become embedded over time. To restore your fabric-roofed pergola to its full shine, it is important to clean it. Be careful, however — avoid the use of chemical products, chlorine, or bleach.
The fabric must be cleaned on a flat surface such as concrete or grass. Earthy ground could soil the fabric, so make sure this is not the case on grass.
Even without enough space to fully unroll the fabric, set yourself up as advised and unroll the fabric gradually as you clean.
Equipment needed to clean your fabric pergola and pergotoile
- A broom
- A soft brush
- Mild soap
- Water.

Cleaning procedure
Carefully detach the fabric and lay it on the flat surface mentioned. Then remove dust with your broom, and eliminate dirt by gently scrubbing with the brush and the mixture of water and soap, before rinsing with a clean water jet.

Afterwards, dry your fabric in the sun, still on a flat surface to prevent the appearance of mold. If stains remain, try applying other mixtures with a sponge:
- Water + white vinegar
- Water + baking soda
- Water + juice of half a lemon.
